When I posted last, the World Cup hadn’t yet begun. Since that time, the U.S., despite a valiant effort, has dropped out. But that loss didn’t stop the U.S. from winning another world sporting competition. Earlier this month, Intelligentsia’s Michael Phillips became the first American to win the World Barista Champion. If you’ve managed to avoid the press on this, I highly recommend these videos to catch you up on some of the tom foolery that preceded this event as well as Michael Phillips’ winning performance (or at least his performance in the semi-finals since the finals video seems to be missing). But, just as interesting is the vacuum at the top left by so many of this year’s top competitors vowing not to return to competition.
All this is to say that it’s been far too long since I posted last. I promise to get back on the blogging bandwagon soon. Until then, and just in time for the fourth of July, I leave you with this thought. Is it just me, or does it seem like someone may be in for a heated trademark infringement battle?
